I recently reached out to our State Representative, Dylan Wegela, to address a growing concern that I believe deserves serious attention. There is a noticeable rise in digital prostitution across platforms like Snapchat, Tinder, and other social media apps. Individuals are frequently requesting money in exchange for explicit content, and this behavior is becoming alarmingly common throughout Michigan.
I asked Representative Wegela to consider introducing legislation that would update Michigan’s legal definition of prostitution to include digital and online activity. I also raised the issue of intimidation and manipulation that often accompanies these online exchanges, which can harm individuals emotionally, socially, and financially.
